The Novorossiysk cinema once operated on the square, and an anchor was installed next to it — it gathered a lot of curious people next to it, and, as a result, some people went to the cinema. Now this building houses the 35 mm cinema. Many film festivals take place there, and films are shown in their original language.

The square is named after the hero of the Soviet Union, a participant in the Second World War, the commander of the amphibious detachment that seized the Malaya Zemlya bridgehead. Caesar Lvovich Kunikov was buried on Heroes Square in Novorossiysk, in a mass grave.
