Stasi Museum

The Stasi Museum, located in the former headquarters of East Germany's Ministry for State Security (Stasi), offers an in-depth look at the methods and operations of one of the most notorious secret police agencies of the Cold War. The museum is situated in Berlin's Lichtenberg district and occupies several floors of the 'House 1' building, where Stasi leader Erich Mielke had his offices.

Exhibits include original surveillance equipment, documents, and personal belongings of Stasi officers. The museum provides a detailed account of the Stasi's extensive network of informants, its techniques for monitoring and controlling the population, and its impact on East German society. Visitors can explore reconstructed offices and interrogation rooms, gaining insight into the oppressive regime's inner workings.

The Stasi Museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and educational programs, offering guided tours in multiple languages. It serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of human rights and the dangers of state surveillance.
