Revolution Square

Previously, the Neglinnaya River flowed through the territory of modern Revolution Square, and mills and flour shops stood nearby. Later, the Kitaygorodskaya Wall appeared here, from the gate of which a bridge was thrown, and trade buildings grew nearby. The square itself was formed only at the beginning of the nineteenth century, after Neglinnaya was removed in a special pipe.

Closer to the beginning of the twentieth century, the house of merchant Karzinkin was built in the north of the square, where the Big Moscow Hotel and the tavern of the same name were later arranged. Alexander Blok, Anton Chekhov, Pyotr Tchaikovsky and other eminent cultural figures often visited it. However, the institution could not receive famous guests for a long time: in 1976 it was demolished together with the merchant's house.

Today, you can find many museums and architectural monuments here. Among them, there is an attraction popular among guests and residents of the capital, the “happy dog”. They say rubbing her nose will certainly bring good luck.

In winter, one of the largest ice slides in Moscow opens on the square — with a ramp length of about 100 meters. You can ride it for free, and “cheesecakes” are provided on site.
