Native Muscovites know that if you need to meet in the city center, make an appointment near the fountain located in GUM — you will not go wrong. This fountain is really one of Moscow's business cards.

When the construction of the Upper Trading Rows building began at the end of the 19th century, a proposal was considered to install a fountain on its territory. This idea was implemented in the early 1900s. The installed fountain was a composition consisting of a rounded bowl and an elegant upper part.

In the middle of the 20th century, work was carried out on the restoration of GUM, during which the fountain was also slightly changed: the bowl was given an octagonal shape, and the upper part became taller and more noticeable. Subsequently, the hydraulic system was modernized, the bottom of the bowl was laid out with marble, and the upper structure was made bronze, which gave it greater strength.

The fountain in GUM is the only one in the capital that does not turn off during the winter period. In addition, it is equipped with a technical system designed for installation in the building.
