Broido apartment house
The house itself is an example of Art Nouveau architecture of the early 20th century, of which there are many in Moscow. Probably, the creation of architect Nikolai Zherikhov would be much less known if it were not for the sculptures of Sinaev-Bernstein described above. They were created for the Museum of Fine Arts, but seemed too frivolous to the management of this institution.
Writers are really portrayed in a very free form. There is even a rumor among the townspeople that this place used to be a brothel, and now its most famous customers flaunt on the facade. Historians tend to believe that this assumption does not correspond to reality.
The most likely version of the origin of the sculptures says that they were conceived by the author as part of a large composition depicting the procession of various cultural figures towards Apollo, who wore them wreaths of glory.
The house was renovated in 2018. Among other things, specialists recreated a unique stucco frieze, restored the surviving elements of architectural decor, and recreated windows and doors. The restoration project even received an award for research work
