Boulevard ring
To be precise, this is not exactly a ring — the circle opens in two places, in the west and east. Once upon a time, the third fortress wall of the capital, the White City, passed on the site of the current boulevards, which is why the streets in its place formed a circle. They were founded at the end of the 18th century, when the fortress finally lost its functional purpose.
In 1947, Moscow celebrated its big anniversary — its 800th anniversary, and in honor of this, the boulevard ring was also transformed. It was landscaped with shrubs and flower beds, beautiful wooden benches and a new openwork fence grate were installed.
The very first boulevard that appeared on the site of the White City is Tverskaya, which is also the longest — as much as 857 meters. But the shortest one is Sretensky, its length is four times smaller than Tverskoy. Pokrovsky Boulevard was the last to appear — it became possible to walk along it only in 1954.
