Berlin Wall Memorial
The Berlin Wall Memorial (Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer) is the central memorial site commemorating the division of Berlin by the Berlin Wall and the deaths that occurred at the Wall. Located at the historic site on Bernauer Strasse, the memorial extends for 1.4 kilometers and includes the last piece of the Berlin Wall with preserved grounds behind it, providing a true sense of the Wall's structure and the fortifications along the border strip.
The memorial consists of an open-air exhibition, the Documentation Center, and the Chapel of Reconciliation. Visitors can learn about the history of the Berlin Wall, the impact of the division on the city and its people, and the events leading to the peaceful revolution of 1989.
