Andronikov Monastery
Within the walls of the monastery is the Spassky Cathedral, the oldest temple in Moscow, located outside the Kremlin. The monastery is attractive not only for its beauty and uniqueness. Fragments of frescoes by the legendary icon painter Andrei Rublev can be seen in it. As you know, Rublev was a monk of the Andronikov Monastery, and here he was buried after his death.
In the 60th year of the 20th century, the Museum of Ancient Russian Art and Culture was opened here, which collected icons created in the period from the 13th to the 17th centuries. Currently, the museum continues its work in the monastery, and services have been resumed in the cathedral.
