This spacious building has the shape of a square, which is covered by a vault box. The ward was used as a ceremonial reception. At the end of the 16th century, after being decorated with paintings on a gold background, it acquired its name. The painting contains detailed narratives depicting scenes from the lives of the queens of Byzantium and Georgia, as well as the Russian Princess Olga. Several unique fragments can be seen in restorations of the middle of the last century, and many parts were lost during earlier renovations.

The white-stone portal from Zhiletskaya to the Golden Chamber has been preserved in its original form. There are original decorations in the form of subtle ornaments with floral motifs.

After the Verkhospassky Cathedral was erected over the chamber, the vaults were strengthened with diagonal arches.
