building of the Moscow City Duma
The Moscow City Duma was established at the end of the XVIII century by order of Catherine II. For a hundred years, the Duma was located in a public building located on Red Square, and then, when the number of its representatives increased significantly, in a house on Vozdvizhenka, which belonged to Sheremetev. At the same time, it was decided to build a Duma building on Voskresenskaya Square, now called Revolution Square. Many projects were considered and, as a result, the project of architect D. Chichagin. The style of the building he planned was in harmony with the nearby house [of the Historical Museum] (http://kudago.com/msk/place/gos-istoricheskij-muze/): elements of Old Russian buildings combined with the those days are in fashion with a neo-renaissance interior. Initially, the building was supposed to be light gray, but red was chosen during the construction process.
In the 1930s, the building of the Moscow City Duma was converted into the Lenin Museum, and after the collapse of the Soviet Union, it was transferred to the Historical Museum.
