Travnikov garden

In 1957, Pavel Ivanovich Travnikov, who lives on Frunzenskaya Embankment, founded a garden on his own on the site where the city slums were located. To do this, he used bulk soil, which he purchased from the organizers of the construction of the Luzhniki stadium and the reconstruction of buildings in the Khamovniki district. First of all, Travnikov planted apple trees, plums and roses in his new garden, and then began to plant flowers participating in exhibitions held at VDNH. Clematis grew in the garden, as well as rare flowers provided by breeders from various regions of the USSR. According to the established tradition, the fruit harvest was distributed to pensioners and residents of neighboring houses, and bouquets of flowers were distributed to schoolchildren on September 1.

After Travnikov's death, the garden gradually fell into disrepair, and many plants, including those listed in the Red Book, were stolen. Five years ago, a school biology teacher Alexander Viktorovich Egorov accidentally saw what was left of the garden and, together with his students, began to restore and further develop the monument nature. Now Travnikov's garden is threatened with complete destruction due to the planned construction of a multi-storey building with underground parking near it. Residents of neighboring houses, people caring for the garden and simply caring Muscovites hold rallies for the preservation of the Travnikov Garden and the protection of the natural landscapes of the capital.
