There is a legend: during the flood, a little bunny jumped into the boot of Tsar Peter, and thus escaped. After that, the island on which the Peter and Paul Fortress is located was named Zayachy.

The monument was erected on May 7, 2003, the very day when the Ioannovsky Bridge was opened after restoration. Since then, the small sculpture is the mascot of the bridge.
