Lower Park

The Lower Park of Peterhof is renowned for its extensive system of fountains and water features, covering over 100 hectares with more than 150 fountains, four cascades, and numerous sculptures and pavilions. The Grand Cascade, located at the entrance of the Lower Park, is the most iconic of these features.

The Grand Cascade consists of three waterfalls and 64 fountains, adorned with 37 gilded bronze statues, including the famous statue of Samson tearing open the jaws of a lion, symbolizing Russia's victory over Sweden. The water for the fountains is supplied by a gravity-fed system, a remarkable engineering feat that does not require any pumps.

Other notable fountains in the Lower Park include the Chessboard Hill Cascade, the Roman Fountains, and the Pyramid Fountain. The park also features charming pavilions such as Monplaisir Palace, the Hermitage Pavilion, and the Marly Palace, each offering unique insights into the lifestyle and tastes of the Russian royalty.
