church of Alexis, the man of God
The history of the Church of St. Alexis goes back to the past. Initially, a monastery and a church in honor of this saint were built in the 17th century, in the ancient settlement near Moscow — Krasnoye Selo. The temple was considered a masterpiece of Russian architecture of that time. 200 years later, a new church was built here, designed by architect Mikhail Bykovsky. He decorated the building with decorative elements borrowed from the canons of architecture of the 16th century. The church, which stands on the land of the Alekseevsky Monastery, has long been the compositional center of the monastery architectural ensemble. In the 1930s, it was destroyed and only in 2002 work began on the restoration of the temple.
Today, the Church of Alexy the Man of God has been completely revived.
