The Hackesche Höfe is the largest courtyard complex in Germany, located in the historic Scheunenviertel area of Berlin’s Spandauer Vorstadt. This remarkable site comprises eight interconnected courtyards, designed in the Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) style by architect Kurt Berndt and artist August Endell. Opened in 1906, the complex was initially intended to house a mix of residential, commercial, and cultural spaces.

During the early 20th century, the Hackesche Höfe became a vibrant cultural hub, hosting the famous Neopathetisches Cabaret and attracting artists, intellectuals, and the Jewish community. The courtyards were partially damaged during World War II and fell into disrepair during the GDR era.
